Engines roar, tires screech, and the competition is on! OctaRace, the explosive arcade racing game from indie studio Pixel Almost Perfect, is now live on Kickstarter. This colorful, fast-paced title, inspired by classics like MicroMachines, Crash Team Racing, and TrackMania is a heartfelt tribute to the multiplayer games of our childhood.

Developed in collaboration with PixelHeart, OctaRace is racing toward a 2025 release on PC, Switch, PS4/PS5, Xbox Series X/S… and even the Switch 2!

Retro PS1 Vibes with Instant Fun

Designed as a love letter to the golden age of couch co-op gaming, OctaRace delivers simple yet deep gameplay: drifting, boosting, terrain variations, and vehicle categories with unique stats (weight, speed, handling). It’s a fun, technical experience for casual and competitive players alike.

Featuring 12 vehicles, 8 biomes across 24 tracks, and 3 core game modes, OctaRace promises hours of racing fun solo or with up to 8 players locally or online.

At the heart of the game is the drift system: master tight turns to charge your boost meter, then unleash it to gain the upper hand. Each track offers unique challenges, mud, ice, boost pads, loopings, and shortcuts, that demand tactical driving and strategic use of your vehicle’s strengths.

A Post-Apocalyptic World Ruled by AI

OctaRace goes beyond racing with its bold narrative backdrop. Set in a world where humanity has collapsed, the AI entity Octa has risen from the ashes. To decide whether humans deserve a place in the future, Octa launches a planet-wide racing competition : one where love, passion, and solidarity might make all the difference.

You play as one of 8 pilots, each representing a surviving tribe, with their own biome and backstory. These are not just characters; they’re protagonists with hopes, struggles, and personal goals, adding depth and emotional stakes to the race.

A Stunning Artistic and Audio Direction

Visually, OctaRace channels the nostalgic look of PS1-era games, enhanced with modern effects like motion blur, bloom, and depth of field. Each biome stands out with its own visual identity, from futuristic deserts to radioactive forests and hanging cities.

Want to try it before backing? A playable demo is available on Steam throughout the campaign. Wishlist the game and share it….it really helps!

This demo allows you to test several vehicles and biomes, in single-player or local & online multiplayer. It’s a great way to experience the gameplay and send your feedback to the developers.
